Master of Science in Technology Commercialization and Entrepreneurship

Successful commercialization of technology requires not only technical understanding but also a basic foundation in management that covers bringing the product to market by developing a business plan, obtaining funding, staffing and managing the enterprise and understanding how to value and protect intellectual property.

The purpose of the Lally School TC&E program is to prepare a new generation of technology entrepreneurs who have an advanced understanding of technology, a fundamental understanding of commercial functions and analytics, and practical experience in the process of innovation and technological commercialization.

This unique program is an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Lally School of Management, 11 other departments at Rensselaer, and Albany Law School. Graduate students take core management and law credits and specialize in-depth in advanced studies in a technology, science or product design area.

Undergraduates selected for this track can combine studies in a technology discipline with Management. After receiving a B.S. degree, they can continue for an additional 30 credits to earn an M.S. degree.

Master’s Curriculum

A one-year, 30 credit M.S. in Management focusing on TC&E. Students join with a cohort of graduate students who understand the basics of a specific science or technology and pursue advanced studies in a technology while learning the basics of management that covers how to bring new technologies to market and the basics of business law relevant to commercializing the technology.
