Introduction
MCNY’s unique Master of Science in Education: Dual Childhood1-6/Special Education degree is registered by the New York State Education Department. Following MCNY’s experientially-based Purpose-Centered Education model, students learn to become an effective teacher by applying the coursework while completing a 10-month residency in urban public schools. The 46-credit 12-months three-semester or the 16-months four-semester program is for people who want the flexibility of holding two certifications to teach in general, inclusive or special education classroom settings on the elementary level. After completion of all program degree requirements, graduates are institutionally recommended to the New York State Education Department for both Initial and Professional certifications in Childhood Education Grades 1-6 (Program Code: 28479), and Students with Disabilities Grades 1-6
