Master's degree course in Bioorganic Chemistry and Toxicology of Pollutants is designed for students who are interested in a broader study of biologically active chemical compounds. This study builds on undergraduate courses in Chemistry and Toxicology and Analysis of Pollutants. The study is structured into two parallel focus -Bioorganic Chemistry, Toxicology of Pollutants. Both foci have a common basis in the form of compulsory subjects and differ in compulsory optional subjects, respectively optional subjects. Within the required courses, the main emphasis is focused on acquiring knowledge about the structural, physical-chemical, analytical, molecular biological, biochemical and toxicological aspects of the biologically active compounds. The focus of Bioorganic Chemistry is concentrated on compulsory optional subjects of the structure of compounds in silico methods, analytical methods, and biochemical methods. Optional subjects are oriented on chemical, biological and toxicological issues. The study is completed with a state exam in Bioorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry and defence of a master thesis. The focus of Toxicology pollutants is concentrated on compulsory optional subjects in the field of analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and toxicology. Optional subjects are oriented on chemical, biological and toxicological issues. The study is completed with a state exam in Bioorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Toxicology and defence of a master thesis.
Absolvent of bachelor studies in Chemistry, Toxicology, and Analysis of Pollutants or related bachelor studies, where the professional chemistry knowledge was gained.
Entrance examination in chemistry at bachelor level will be done via verbal interview.
Master's degree graduate in the focus of Bioorganic Chemistry is educated chemist with advanced knowledge of biologically active compounds. Master's degree graduate in focus Toxicology is trained as a chemist with advanced knowledge of analytical chemistry and toxicology. Knowledge of the chemical compounds and their structure, physical-chemical properties, analytical, biochemical, biological and toxicological processes give graduates good prospects for future employment in the field of natural sciences.
The graduate is able to perform basic and advanced chemical laboratory operations, apply theoretical and practical knowledge of chemistry in practice, and master the acquisition and evaluation of experimental data and their subsequent interpretation. Graduates will find a wide range of applications in chemical laboratories across the state and the business community, including research institutions, healthcare, food industry, but also in the production, processing, handling, sale, and disposal of chemicals. Graduates can also apply for postgraduate studies in chemical or biological focus.
