Master of Public Administration in International Development

The Master of Public Administration in International Development Programme at Tsinghua University’s School of Public Policy and Management is a two-year master’s program focusing on public policy from an international perspective. The MID Programme is unique due to its distinctive location in Beijing, China, allowing students to merge their classroom knowledge with hands-on experience in a developing country.

STUDENTS

MID students come from 41 different countries, with diverse backgrounds in fields such as public policy,engineering, political science, business, economics and other disciplines. MID alumni are committed to the development practice worldwide, currently working in various companies, NGOs, and governments around the world.

INTERNSHIPS

Internship is a required component of the MID curriculum and offers valuable work experience in a novel environment. Current internship sites include Operation Smile, the Caofeidian Eco-city, the Confucius Institute, Wenchuan County Government and many others.


FIELD TRIPS

Several field trips offered throughout the course put emphasis on the Chinese practice and give students valuable experience off-campus. Two one-day field trips are organized each semester and two voluntary, student-organized week-long field trips are available during breaks in the course of the program.

SCHOLARSHIPS


More than 50% of our students receive financial aid of some kind. Four different scholarships are awarded to different students based on region or merit. Each academic year, 5 to 10 assistantships are offered as teaching, study and research assistant positions.

CHINESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP

  • Full tuition waive
  • Free housing on campus with stipend
  • Deadline of Dec.31st if applying through Tsinghua
  • If you are applying through Chinese Embassy or your current university, please check individual deadlines


BEIJING GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP

  • Partial tuition waive
  • Deadline of Dec.31st
  • Several scholarships may be awarded on merit after the deadline, based on openings

IPRCC SCHOLARSHIP

  • Scholarships awarded each year through stipend after students are already enrolled in program
  • Free field trip opportunities
  • Reserved for students frome developing countries

TSINGHUA SCHOLARSHIP

  • Partial tuition waive
  • Deadline of Dec.31st
  • Several scholarships may be awarded on merit after the deadline, based on openings

PUBLIC POLICY AND MANAGEMENT SCHOLARSHIP

  • Full or partial tuition waive
  • Deadline of Feb.29th
  • Based on merit or region

Admission

The review process will have two phases.  Members of SPPM’s Academic Committee will carefully review and rank all the applications based on their qualifications. 

1st Phase: November 1st to December 31st, 2011. 

2nd Phase: January 1st to February 29th, 2012. 

Enrolment

MID 2012 students will enrol in the program in August, 2012.
