Introduction
The Master in Plant Production (PPGPV) is a Stricto Sensu Graduate Program whose main objective is the training of ethical masters and capable of developing advanced studies in Plant Production. The master's program was evaluated and approved in 2011 by the CAPES Agricultural Sciences Committee with a concept of 4. The university campus of Ipameri, in addition to the two undergraduate courses (Agronomy and Forestry Engineering), started to count on the program in March 2012 post-graduate (master's degree strictly ) in Vegetable Production. The Master's in Plant Production is based on two lines of research: Phytotechnics and Genetic Resources and Biodiversity
As it is an imminently agricultural region, the training of masters capable of developing advanced studies in Vegetable Production will contribute directly and significantly to the regional advance by making the thinking and qualified labor available to the market.
History and context of the program
The State of Goiás appeared in the Brazilian economic scenario from 1940 onwards, meeting the demand for primary products for the southeastern region, which started its industrialization process. Thus, the State was incorporated into the national production process as a supplier of foodstuffs and raw materials and, mainly, as an absorber of population surpluses in other regions of the country. However, due to the privileged logistical conditions of production and flow, Goiás started to receive a large number of agro-industries, which had a multiplier effect on the region's economy. In this way, Goiás ceases to be a mere producer of raw material that served the most developed regions, to be a strong generator of foreign exchange, employment, and income. Even observing the industrial development in some specific municipalities, most of the state's municipalities have agribusiness as their main economic activity, with social, political, cultural, and environmental effects for rural and urban populations.
Aiming to train ethical professionals capable of developing advanced studies in Plant Production, particularly for the Southeast Region, in November 2011 it was approved and in March 2012 the postgraduate program in plant production at the State University of Goiás was implemented at the Campus de Ipameri-GO.
