The master’s program in Ecology gives you a deeper knowledge of how various changes in an ecosystem affect biodiversity. You learn how to identify ecological problems and how to characterize them, plan and conduct investigations, determine and study biological material.
As a master student in Ecology at Sh.UalikhanovKokshetau State University, you will extend your knowledge of how nature works as well as you will develop the tools to predict problems caused by pollution, biodiversity loss and climate change and how to combat them. You will also learn how to interpret data statistically and how to present the results in a report, article, and your master thesis. The program provides an understanding of the theoretical issues in the field of ecology crucial for developing the ability to evaluate both research and nature conservation measures.
You will study environmental biogeochemistry, modern methods of risk assessment in ecology, ecological and economic fundamentals of nature management, methods of teaching ecology in higher school, technologies of the rational use of biological resources.
Components of the program
The two-year program is full-time, covering 122 ECTS.
Theoretical courses are mainly scheduled in the first semester.
The program is composed of compulsory courses and elective courses (chosen from the courses on offer within the specialization) making together 63 ECTS, two types of training (pedagogical and scientific), research project (thesis).
Pedagogical training aims at developing a Master's student teaching skills in the field of agronomy through conducting lectures and practical classes. Scientific training provides deep knowledge of theoretical, methodological and technological achievements in science as well as the organisation and conducting of research projects.
Students who are registered at Sh. Ualikhanov KSU and have successfully completed the Ecology program will obtain an MSc diploma in natural sciences with a specialization in nature conservation and rational nature management.
As a Master’s graduate in Ecology, you have a wide range of career options. The demand for ecologists is considerable these days. The Master's program in Ecology gives you knowledge and skills for advanced work in governments, companies and lays an excellent base for future Ph.D. studies. Students who have completed the Ecology Master program and obtained an MSc diploma in natural sciences can be employed as ecologists, geoecologists, hydroecologists, ecology manager, teacher of ecology, environmental disaster managers, ecoanalysts, expert-ecologists.
