The MSc, or Master of Science, is an internationally recognized academic degree that indicates proficiency and knowledge of a given topic or field. Most MSc programs take about four years to finish, after which some join the workforce while others continue on in the classroom.
In a natural sciences academic program, many branches of the field might be explored in depth with the goal of observing and learning about nature. Some of these branches may include astronomy, biology, physics, ecology and chemistry.

We offer a research-based training program. Graduate students work closely with faculty on research projects, learning how to design, conduct, analyze experiments. Students will also learn to present their work, both in written and oral formats. One particular strength of our department is “behavioral neuroscience” which focuses on the relationship between brain and behavior. Research topics in our department are diverse, including animal social behavior, learning and memory, decision making, addiction, developmental plasticity (including the effects of brain injury, stress, and drugs on brain development), neural coding, motor control, comparative neuroanatomy, comparative behavioral analysis, attention, and robotics....

The MSc program is 24 months for full-time students and 48 months for part-time students. The format for the degree consists of at least 3 graduate level courses and a thesis. All students will take Algebra (Math 5405), Analysis (Math 5505), and a third course. In some cases, a student may be required to include undergraduate courses as well, if additional background preparation is required.
The thesis is the most significant component of work towards the degree and usually involves original research. The first step for any prospective student is to select a potential supervisor and in consultation with the supervisor, organize a research plan including a possible thesis topic, before admission to the program. Faculty research interests are a critical factor in this preliminary decision....

The Master of Science program (Biological Sciences major) offers students the opportunity to receive focused, advanced training in a wide range of biological disciplines. This is a research-oriented program that culminates in students earning their master’s degree by completing a minimum of two courses and writing a thesis.
One of the courses in the Graduate Seminar Series, which focuses on recent developments in the biology literature, as well as on building professional skills related to the practice and communication of modern biological sciences. The precise number and details of the other courses are determined within the first semester of the student's program....

Master of Science in Mathematics
The MSc in Mathematics provides students with a strong background in disciplines such as analysis, algebra, topology and modern applications in computational fields. It ensures that students have the appropriate training necessary to make career choices from a wider range of options after completing the program.
Through a variety of seminars, workshops and presentations, students are introduced to the essential ingredients of doing research as well as a variety of open problems. The program consists of coursework, seminars and a Major Research Paper, which is completed within a year.
The Major Research Paper focuses on an open problem in Mathematics, which could be theoretical or applied in nature. Students are asked to learn about an unsolved problem by researching its history and the contributions of other mathematicians towards solving the problem. Full-time and part-time study is available....
