Water resources, indispensable basis for development, food, and health, become ever scarcer and more polluted. The concept of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM)
Water resources, indispensable basis for development, food, and health, become ever scarcer and more polluted. The concept of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) offers solutions to the water crisis in linking water to other vital resources and viewing the whole water cycle together with human interventions as the basis for sustainable water management.

Current global trends such as population and economic growth as well as climate change exert increasing pressure on water resources worldwide, which are the basis for food production, urban and industrial water supplies and hydropower. Experts are needed who understand that multiple problems of water resources management can only be addressed through a holistic approach considering both technical and socioeconomic problems of resources use. These experts should also have knowledge of the practices of project funding and international cooperation....

to make a difference. Is this you?
Obtaining, distributing and managing the vulnerable resource water will play an even bigger role in the future than it does today. Reconciling ecology and economy in the water management is a challenging task where management skills and water engineering know-how is indispensable. Therefore it is important that the complex water systems meet the levels of service and performance requirements defined by increasingly social and environmental demands, whilst minimizing financial, environmental and social costs. The continued development, operation, and management of these systems require highly trained experts with knowledge and practical skills that covers science, engineering and management disciplines....
The interuniversity master’s programme offers a multidisciplinary approach to marine and lacustrine systems. It integrates physical, chemical, geological, ecological and
The programme provides insight into the diversity and complexity of the life and processes in the oceans, seas, lakes and estuaries and skills to study and manage them. In many cases, this diversity is endangered because the aquatic environment is increasingly coming under pressure—climate change, biodiversity erosion, increasing fishery requirements and overfishing, pollution, developments in aquaculture, coastal reclamation, etc. This 2-year master programme addresses students with a background in Sciences. It provides you with strong fundamental and applied knowledge and prepares you for an active role in the scientific research and management of marine ecosystems. The programme adopts a multidisciplinary approach integrating physical, chemical geological, ecological and societal aspects and including nature conservation and sustainable development. This programme trains students in playing a key role in high quality scientific marine research providing advice in marine management based on sound scientific knowledge becoming critically minded, problem-solving and communicative scientists...
The Earth Surface and Water program trains students to quantitatively study the natural and human-induced physical and chemical processes, patterns, and dynamics of Earth
The Master’s program in Earth Surface and Water involves the study of natural and human-induced physical and geochemical processes, patterns, and dynamics of the Earth’s continental and coastal systems. This two-year program provides you with the knowledge that is essential to manage the planet sustainably, guarantee the availability of natural resources for future generations, and understand and avert natural hazards.
The main subject areas you will study consist of the dynamics of coastal and river systems, (geo-)hydrological processes, groundwater remediation, land degradation in drylands and mountainous regions, natural hazards, and delta evolution on centennial and longer timescales....
This advanced master program is designed to equip students with the competency to understand the state-of-the-art on water technology and integrated water management.
The main objective of this interuniversity study program between Ghent University and the University of Antwerp, is the education of specialists in water technology with knowledge and understanding of integrated water management and policy, the developments in the water sector and the global water issue. The study program is oriented towards the development of integrated competencies for the analysis and solution of water problems with adequate technology and management, and departs from competence-oriented learning based on integrated entities of knowledge and insight, competences and attitudes.
The study program provides you with advanced knowledge, a critical attitude, self-reflection, and a research mentality. You will have gained specialist, academic knowledge and competencies about the functioning of the water system and the application of technology for integrated water policy and management. This enables you to bring about technological solutions and to integrate them into integrated water policy and water management in various application fields all over the world....

With an MSc in Aquatic Science and Technology, you can contribute to sustainable harvest and production of fish and shell-fish, assessment and management of human impact and environmental change as well as cutting-edge research on aquatic ecosystems, traits of their inhabitants, and their impact on global climate.
Two-thirds of the Earth’s surface is covered by water, and the seas, lakes, and streams have a crucial role to play in regulating our planet’s biogeography and climate—and in maintaining biodiversity. Moreover, a large part of the global population is dependent on fisheries and aquaculture as a source of food or income, and ‘blue growth’ features high on the EU’s political agenda....
The two-year program Master in Marine and Lacustrine Science and Management (Oceans & Lakes) – organized jointly by Ghent University, University of Antwerp and Vrij U
Bodies of water, including oceans, large lakes, seas and estuaries, make up the largest part of the earth’s surface. Well above 70% of the earth’s surface consists of water, which is essential for all life. Humans extract both directly and indirectly a major part of their food from the seas, photosynthesis in the oceans is responsible for approximately half of the global oxygen production, the oceans continue to yield unknown life forms at an astonishing rate. In spite of the importance of the water bodies of this earth, much of them remains unknown.
The two-year program Master of Science in Marine and Lacustrine Science and Management (Oceans & Lakes) addresses students with a background in sciences. Oceans & Lakes is an interuniversity program jointly offered by Ghent University, University of Antwerp and Vrije Universiteit Brussel. It provides students with a strong fundamental and applied knowledge and prepares them for an active role in the scientific research and management of marine and lacustrine systems....
