The Integrated Urbanism and Sustainable Design (IUSD) is an International Master Program at Ain Shams University (ASU). IUSD MSc program was established in 2011 as a double degree Master program jointly hosted by Ain Shams University and the University of Stuttgart, funded by the Egyptian and German Governments. It trains and prepares a new generation of urban practitioners to face the tremendous environmental, cultural, socio-economic and governance challenges resulting from the dynamic urban transformation around the globe.
It is open to graduates and young professionals from the fields of architecture, urban planning, landscape architecture and regional planning as well as to graduates with other Bachelor degrees and with relevant professional experience. Our philosophy is based on a transnational learning exchange between students with different regional backgrounds applied to a specific urban reality. Our joint IUSD Lab´s experiential learning hubs are based in Egypt (IUSD Lab Cairo) and Germany (IUSD Lab Stuttgart) and embedded into a network of international partner institutions and universities around the world....

Master of Science in Urban Development (UD)
Background and Challenges
Urban growth is extensively transforming the face of the planet. For the first time in human history, more than half of the world's population now lives in towns and cities. With an average growth rate of 2.1% per annum from 1990-2003, the MENA region has one of the world’s most rapidly expanding populations, increasingly concentrated in urban areas.
Cities in both the MENA region and other parts of the world are engines of growth, providing a disproportionate share of income opportunities and access to services. At the same time, cities are places of growing social and economic inequality, with increasing numbers of people living in poverty and deteriorating living conditions. Furthermore, urbanization also poses a significant challenge in the 21st century, with an estimated 80% of global greenhouse gas emissions linked to urban areas. The enormous contribution of urban areas to global greenhouse gas emissions is set to increase even more....

Landscape Architecture is sometimes described as ‘drawing in the topography’, but the profession encompasses much more. During the Master’s programme at the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture, you will acquire the knowledge, insight, and skills that make it possible to solve spatial problems through design and to shed light on new topographical situations. This will take place at different scale levels, from a garden to the region.
You will not only learn to reconcile new elements such as water, infrastructure, buildings or greenery with the existing qualities and possibilities of the natural and historical environment, but also how to set a process in motion which an increasing amount of parties will latch on to. Research is an important part of the work, as genuine understanding and innovation can arise from this. That also means gaining an understanding of other factors than the spatial one: the users, the creators and the managers. Above all, the landscape architect is explicitly aware of the influence that the time factor has on the quality of the environment, and can let this do its work. By introducing the right basic conditions, a high-quality outdoor environment is created....

FHK MA+U, Tilburg, the Netherlands offers the concurrent Master of Architecture (M. Arch). The Master of Architecture is collaborative, topical, creative and practice-based. While firmly rooted in the Dutch architectural tradition, the program has a strong international orientation. Nowadays, spatial challenges to be confronted by architects are global by nature while still requiring context and location-specific solutions. The master program’s objective is to educate architects who are able at effectively combining design intelligence with a reflective attitude and practical and entrepreneurial skills. The curriculum is competency based and geared towards achieving mastery skills in seven crucial competences (Design, Research, Collaboration, Communication, Entrepreneurial skills, Organizing, Professional skills)The educational concept of this Master program is unique; education in concurrency with employment in a professional practice. This concurrent education offers students experience and education beyond the school curriculum, essential to their professional formation as architectural designers. Additionally, the Academy itself is a laboratory for spatial assignments from real stakeholders. Our tutors are professionals from a variety of disciplines, but all with a strong relation to practice. The Design Studio is the heart of the master program. In the studio, students are trained to apply all kinds of skills and methods towards ever more convincing synthetic design proposals for complex spatial problems. The studio assignments are invariably related to the complexity of contemporary societies and will engage social, cultural, political, economic and technological parameters....
