Rutgersâ Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering graduate degree programs offer dynamic opportunities for advanced training and research in an intellectually and academically stimulating environment. Department graduates are well-prepared to pursue successful careers in industry, government, and academia.

Our department has 28 internationally renowned faculty members who, along with distinguished professors from other departments, teach and conduct cutting-edge research on a broad spectrum of topics. Programme students can choose to specialize in:

Degree Options

Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering students have several masterâs degree options. Our Master of Engineering degree is a terminal professional degree, designed primarily for professionals working in industry or government. Students in our thesis-based Master of Science degree program complete their degree with research credits.

MS (thesis): 30 Course Credits

The programâs required 30 credits include 24 credits of coursework, with a minimum of five 3-credit (15) MAE graduate courses, and six research credits and the writing and successful public defence of a thesis.

MEng (non-thesis): 30 Course Credits

The program requires the completion of 30-course credits and a project, plus a final oral examination and report based on the project. Of the 30 required course credits, a minimum of seven three-credit courses (21)must be MAE graduate courses.
