For those who are eager to expand their knowledge of psychology further, this course is ideal. It is also an appropriate progression for those who are interested in vocational psychology roles which increasingly require doctorate training. With a number of roles in vocational psychology now requiring doctorate training, there is a need for students to gain experience and knowledge in order to gain a place on the doctorate programmes. The additional experience and knowledge gained from completing this Masters, better equips graduates to compete for a place on a doctorate programme.
You will be expected to demonstrate the capacity to formulate research questions, study designs, and ethical considerations, before then carrying out and reporting on your findings.
The four mandatory core modules include:

Psychology in Practice (a placement module).
Research Design and Statistics (Mandatory). The Research Design and Statistics module builds on undergraduate research methods and statistics and aims to further develop an understanding of scientific research methodology and multivariate statistical analysis. Students will be introduced to more complex experimental designs, encourage a critical understanding of statistical procedures and develop practical knowledge of statistical data analysis.
Clinical Applications in Psychology (Mandatory). The Clinical Applications in Psychology module will guide students through what clinical psychologists are able to contribute to service users’ mental health. Led by specialists, students will acquire knowledge and core skills related to a clinical psychology career including assessment, formulation and diagnosis, evidence-based interventions, and evaluation of clinical work.
Psychological and Neuropsychological Assessment (Mandatory). The Psychological and Neuropsychological Assessment module will equip students with the knowledge and skills to understand how psychological and neuropsychological assessment can be used either practically in the psychological formulation process, or as a way of research data collection, as an essential aspect of the role of a psychological practitioner.
Dissertation Project (Mandatory). The Dissertation Project module allows students to demonstrate their skills in; critical review and evaluation of literature, formulation of a research question, plan, design, conduct and analyse the research, reflect and disseminate the findings in a professional manner, as using evidence-based practice is an essential aspect of being a psychologist.
Educational Psychology (Optional). Educational Psychology module will guide students through the role of a psychologist working with children and young people whilst contributing towards their mental health, care and safeguarding and/or educational needs. The module will direct students through behavioural, emotional, developmental and learning disorders.
Psychology in Practice - A Placement Module (Optional). The Psychology in Practice module aims to help students develop an awareness of the professional issues relevant to psychologists. It seeks to allow students to develop as psychologists in key aspects including; in their own personal development, awareness and reflection in their practice/application of psychology, the development of professional awareness and skills.

At the University of Suffolk, your tuition fees provide access to all the usual teaching and learning facilities that you would expect. However, there may be additional costs associated with your course that you will need to budget for.
Applicants must hold at least a 2:1 degree in Psychology, which confers eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Status with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
Those with a 2:2 are welcome to apply, but preference will be given to those who have some additional relevant clinical experience to add to their CV.

Unfortunately, those who do not have a primary degree in Psychology are not eligible to apply.
However, if you have a degree in another discipline, and feel strongly about making a career change into Psychology, you can apply to the British Psychological Society to undertake a Graduate Conversion Course in Psychology, which then gives you eligibility for Chartered Status in the future.
If you have successfully completed the conversion course, your application for entry to this programme will then be considered.
