Why this course?

The effective management of employees in the private and public sectors is key to the future success of the Omani economy.

Oman is experiencing rapid transformation in its workforce, driven by technological and generational change and necessitated by policies designed to increase the presence of Omanis at all levels in the workplace.

The purpose of the MSc in Managing Human Resources is to provide HR professionals and those seeking to work in this area with the tools to operate effectively within this fast-changing environment.

This course offers you an opportunity to study organisations and the management of work in depth.

In studying the management of people, you will engage with contemporary ideas and arguments about Human Resource Management and International Human Resource Management within organisations.

This will be further contextualised to the particular challenges facing HR professionals in Oman and the wider region.

What you’ll study

The programme will equip students to think critically about issues relating to the international context of the workforce in Oman and the wider region as well as encouraging them to think more practically about the skills required to manage in an international context.

The programme will also provide extensive support for personal development through the induction process, transferable skills workshops, team-building events, networking opportunities, visits to organisations with an international profile and guest speakers.

Major projects

You will complete a 15,000-word dissertation based on a relevant human resources issue. In preparation for this, students will have already completed Research Methods for HR Professionals. Research for the dissertation will normally be conducted within the student's own organisation.

Facilities

This programme will be delivered at our International Centre in Oman based in the College of Banking and Finance.

Entry requirements

First or second-class Honours degree, or equivalent, in any discipline. In addition, all successful applicants will normally be required to have had a period of relevant experience in human resources or general management position.

For students whose first language is not English, achievement of an IELTS score of 6.5 with no criteria below 5.5.
