Our Master of Education (MEd) is for professionals with some teaching or educational experience. It focuses on the complex issues and challenges of 21st-century education.

At Dundee, we have a range of expertise and experience, including interdisciplinarity (a unique strength of the course), leadership, research, inclusion and international education. We are particularly keen to establish links between theory and practice.

Flexible course

When you study for the MEd, you will engage with advanced level educational theory and develop the knowledge base and enquiry skills required to understand and contribute to 21st-century education.

During the course, you will reflect critically upon your own practice as well as current educational issues and debates.

You will engage with the challenges and opportunities of inter-professional collaboration and gain the knowledge and skills to lead learning and teaching in your educational setting.

A key part of this course is your Master’s level dissertation. You will build up your research skills during the first semester, in order to apply them to educational issues. Explore and examine these educational issues to develop new ways of thinking and understanding.

Please note that this course will not provide you with a teaching qualification.


By engaging with the MEd course you are able to influence your own professional learning journey and take control of your own CPD. As a result of this, you can greatly enhance your prospects for future career advancement.

This course has given graduates the opportunity to move into a senior management position within educational settings as well as being able to share their expertise to enhance education provision locally, nationally and globally.

Entry Requirements

You'll need to be a graduate or be able to provide evidence that you can work at postgraduate level. You also need to have experience of working in educational settings however you do not have to be currently employed in an educational setting.
