The recognition of states as democratic, developed and peace-loving nations today depends on their capacity and willingness to protect human rights. Long-term dictators and brutal military rulers are increasingly being ousted and held accountable for gross and systematic violations of human rights before international criminal tribunals. Even business corporations and international organisations are judged by their human rights performance. In post-conflict situations and transitions from totalitarian to democratic rule, human rights constitute an essential element of peace-building, development and good governance. Our NEW Master Political Science with a two-track study model is designed as well for students who want to extend their skills in scientific research as for students aiming a career outside academia as we offer both methodological training and profound practical training. Graduates of the program can thus embark on successful scientific careers and continue their political science studies toward a Ph.D., while others can pursue professional careers in public administration, non-governmental organizations, international organizations, press, interest groups and public relations. Politics, Law and Economics are highly influenced by European decisions. Knowledge of European institutions, policies, decision procedures and law is therefore extremely relevant for everybody working in the public and private sectors. The unique master program in European Union Studies imparts students with a profound theoretical and practical knowledge in these areas, by connecting political science, law, economics, history, communication studies, and languages.
The program also provides opportunities for studying abroad, enhancing the international qualification and the language competences of its students. Also, the whole study program is taught in English (since Curriculum 2016), intensifying the international focus. The master program takes account of political and socio-economic processes and includes European practitioners and experts from the European institutions in its teaching program. By simulating decision procedures and moot courts students practice preparing bargaining positions and negotiating these position in the framework of the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, the Commission and the European Court of Justice....
