Master of Art Degrees in Languages in the North West England United Kingdom. MA English The MA in English offers a superb spread of taught literature modules ranging chronologically from the Renaissance to the present. Reflecting the wide and distinctive expertise of staff in the School of English, the MA embraces subjects from early travel writing to Science Fiction, from Victorian realism to contemporary poetry. You may know already that you would like to specialise in a particular period. We offer three period-specific pathways which will allow you to develop your understanding in depth. A further pathway offers the option for ‘directed research’, allowing you to pursue an independent project of your own under the guidance of a supervisor. Alternatively, you may want to explore literature from across several different periods, making your own choices from the modules we offer – and making your own connections between the texts you read. There is no need to take a specific pathway: you can enrol on the MA in English and choose from any of our taught literature modules. Students opting for the MA in English without a pathway are required to take at least 60 credits of literature modules in addition to the core modules (Research Skills, Dissertation Project, Dissertation). The remaining 30 elective credits can be taken in English or in any available subject across the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
