This two-year degree program is research-focused, allowing students to produce an original 20,000-word thesis. Students may pursue both years of the MAIA in Bologna or one year at another participating European university as part of a cooperative degree program. It does not require a concentration and allows students to submit a thesis in lieu of two of the 16 non-language courses normally required for the MA Applicants put forward a research proposal which, if accepted, becomes the subject of an MAIA thesis in the second year. A World of Resources The Students Dual degree programs with University of Bologna in Italy, the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna in Austria, Sciences Po Lille in France, or University of Leiden in the Netherlands are offered under this program, enabling students to experience the diverse academic environments. Best MAs in Bologna in Italy. Students enrolled in the two-year MA program can elect to spend either their first or second year at SAIS Europe or both years in Washington, DC. Approximately half of the Johns Hopkins SAIS class choose to begin the program in Bologna. Students at SAIS Europe may pursue any of the academic program concentrations or economics specializations offered within the MA. Those interested in concentrations requiring proficiency in languages other than the eight offered at SAIS Europe must first speak with the relevant academic program director. Overview This full-time program is designed for experienced professionals with seven or more years of relevant work experience who wish to develop the advanced analytical and leadership skills necessary to formulate and advocate policy on key international issues. Students have the advantage of designing their own curriculum consisting of eight non-language courses (worth a total of 32 credits). They may also affiliate themselves with an academic program to gain in-depth insight into a specific field of study.
