On a more advanced level (Master’s studies) students are encouraged to collaborate with us in our fields of expertise, i.e. the Contemporary French Novel; Autobiography; Contemporary French Theatre and Francophone Literature, in order develop their capacities for research and critical thought. The French Department’s Master’s is designed for dedicated researchers and mainly consist of a dissertation or a thesis.

The admission requirement for a Master’s is an Honours Degree in French.

Graduate studies in French, under the Department of Romance Languages, is committed to educating students in language and culture, both at home and abroad.

The Master of Arts in French, which can be completed in a year, usually leads to a secondary school teaching position or to a doctoral program at a major university, though it does not include teaching licensure.

The European Languages and Cultures master's programme trains students to be cultural mediators (translators, administrators, editors, etc.) by providing knowledge and skills in a modern or classical language and culture. The programme covers 7 areas of speciality (students focus on one):

MA in French Language and Culture

This program is designed for students who already master the French language and wish to take their experience and knowledge one step further. Introduction and advanced courses span will cover the linguistic and cultural aspects.

Students will gain in‐depth knowledge of the French environment, improve their writing and oral skills and learn to evolve confidently and efficiently in a professional French environment.

The Master of Arts in French Studies (MAFS) at The American College of the Mediterranean is a one-year program that offers students the unique opportunity to earn an American MA degree in France. Situated in Aix-en-Provence near the Mediterranean coast, ACM's program unites mainland French with the Francophone countries of North Africa, ensuring that students are exposed to the rich diversity of the French language and culture.
