Introduction
Postgraduate studies in Food Science and Technology at the Federal University of Viçosa (PPGCTA / UFV) began in August 1974 (master's degree) and April 1994 (doctorate). The PPGCTA, with its 680 dissertations and 323 theses defended until December 31, 2020, is accredited by Organs competent bodies of the Ministry of Education (MEC). In total, more than 60,000 professionals have graduated from the institution; more than 12,000 Master's theses and 4,000 Doctoral theses have already been defended at Campi da UFV.
The master's degree is accredited by Organs competent bodies of the Ministry of Education and Sport (MEC) and the doctorate, recommended by the Technical Advisory Group of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (GTC-CAPES-MEC), both of which are recommended for candidates. Institutional Teacher and Technician Training Program (PICDT).
The graduates of the Program are working in research institutes, in the food and related products industry, or as teaching researchers at Brazilian universities and Latin American countries.
The student works on a full-time basis, including in July and from December to February, under the supervision of an Orientation Committee, therefore it is necessary to establish residence in Viçosa during the period in which he is enrolled in the course. The study plan is prepared based on the student's previous experience, according to his training interest and the objectives of the program. The duration of the masters is 18 to 24 months and that of the doctorate, 30 to 48 months.
