Introduction

Canisius College is the premier private university in Western New York, one of 28 Jesuit, Catholic colleges in the nation and is consistently ranked among the top regional colleges in the Northeast. Founded in 1870 by German Jesuits, Canisius College is named for St. Peter Canisius, a renowned Dutch educator and one of the original members of the Society of Jesus. What began in a single building in downtown Buffalo now consists of 56 buildings located on 72 acres in a residential neighborhood in North-Central Buffalo.

The Master of Sport Administration (MSA) program provides graduate students with skills to effectively manage in a wide range of sport-related enterprises including intercollegiate athletics, amateur and professional sports, sport-marketing firms, special-event management, and facility management. The MSA program has several elements that make it unique: • Quality - The program is one of only a few master's programs in the U.S. approved by the North American Society of Sport Management (NASSM). • Flexibility – The online program is ideal for working professionals with demanding schedules who need to balance work, family and continuing their education. On-campus courses are held in the evening so you can continue to work full-time. You may begin either program during any of our three start terms -- summer, fall or spring. • Internships - The capstone experience, the internship is designed to give students practical experience in a variety of settings in the sport industry. On-line candidates may complete the internship with a sport organization anywhere in the U.S. or internationally. • Faculty Expertise - Our faculty consist of past and current leaders in the sport industry. They bring their expertise and network of contacts with others in the field to the classroom. • Canisius MSA Network - Our network of more than 400 alumni and long-standing association with sport organizations and agencies leads to valuable internship and job opportunities. Entry Requirements To be considered for admission to Canisius College's master's degree program in Special Education, candidates are required to submit the following items: • A completed graduate admissions application.
 • One official college/university transcript showing completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher (3.0 in major courses).
 • Evidence of teacher certification, if applicable (not required for those seeking initial teacher certification along with special education certification).
 • Two letters of recommendation International Students Official undergraduate transcripts with accompanying Certified English translations (see organizations listed below: • Official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score report showing a score of at least 550 for the paper test, at least 213 for the CBT (computer-based test), or at least 80 for the IBT (Internet-based test). Scores must be forwarded directly from the testing service. Canisius also accepts IELTs scores of 6.5 or higher. • Completed Certification of Finances (COF) form, along with any necessary bank statements or sponsor affidavits, to secure a student visa. • Individuals who have completed university coursework at an institution outside the United States (except Canadian universities) must have their transcipts and degrees evaluated to be considered for admission. The following organizations are private institutions that will translate degrees and transcripts. There is a fee associated with evaluations. World Education Services, Inc. P.O. MSc in Special Education The Special Education Master of Science Degree Program at Canisius is designed for those dedicated to meet the needs of students with disabilities, placing a strong emphasis on theory, research and practicum experience. The curriculum enables candidates to develop an understanding of etiology, related psychological and social factors and techniques proven effective for teaching students with diverse learning needs. The graduate programs in Special Education include pathways to achieve course requirements and to earn a New York State Certification Master of Science Degree in Special Education. The program leads to initial and/or professional teacher certification. Practica and research opportunities are available throughout the program. Canisius offers several options for graduate students interested in working with children and youth with disabilities.
