The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences delivers a dynamic combination of full-time and part-time programmes attracting over 5,000 students both locally and internationally. Research-led teaching and outstanding support is offered across undergraduate and postgraduate study in anthropology, education, English, geography, history, history of art, languages, law, politics, international relations, philosophy, religion and sociology.
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences brings together the departments of English and Modern Languages; History, Philosophy and Religion, and Social Sciences with the School of Law, the School of Education, and the Institute of Public Care. We have a reputation for teaching excellence, internationally recognised research and unrivalled student support.
Teaching and research
Research is the foundation for excellence throughout our activities as confirmed by our results in the REF 2014. We include aspects of our research in all our courses, we teach specialist modules in our areas of expertise and we supervise dissertations in our specialist subjects. We encourage students at every level of study to become involved through our seminar series, research centres and special interest research groups.
