Facilities

Middlesex have recently relocated many of our facilities to Hendon, so now everything is based on our single, modern campus. There's been £200 million invested, with a new library, state-of-the-art biomedical and technology labs and TV production studios all installed at the uni. The Grove, an £80 million centre for creative courses is one of the newest buildings on campus which is a base for the art, media and design students.

Location

Based in Hendon, the university is ideally situated for central London - it's just twenty-four minutes journey to Leicester Square - but also has a suburban feel giving you the best of both worlds.

Library and study facilities

The Sheppard Library boasts inspiring views over London's skyline and offers over 1,000 study spaces so you won't have to scramble to find the best study spot. Open 24/7 in term time it gives you ample opportunity to explore all of the 350,000 books on offer here. Our free e-books scheme guarantees every student will get the core textbook for every module in digital format. This adds up to a huge saving over three years of studying, as well as the convenience of being able to access core material from anywhere without carrying heavy textbooks around.

IT

There are around 600 computer stations in the library alone and free wi-fi is equipped across campus. You can also borrow laptops for 24-hour periods and you will be given your own email account with storage space so you can easily stay connected with classmates and lecturers. Students at Middlesex enjoy free printing and photocopying for all university work. There are specialist IT staff around to support students on computer and software usage, in addition to web-based support.

Careers service

The Careers Centre can help pave the way to your dream job by supporting you through your studies. In 2012, over 90% of students who graduated from the university found employment within six months of graduating, so you can rest assured that the careers team will give you some useful advice. From CV building to advice on work placements, you can find it all here.

Student Union

Our £4.5 million central student hub offers sports and recreation facilities and the Student Union is at the heart of it all. The Student Union’s home is MDX House, an impressive, modern venue where you can unwind with a drink after class or catch some live music later in the evening. As well as organising events, the union - MDXSU - provides advice and support to students on academic and personal issues.

Sports

The Fitness Pod is Middlesex's flagship fitness facility with a full range of modern gym equipment and personal trainers on hand to offer health and fitness advice. Using the facilities costs as little as £70 for the whole year - much cheaper than signing up to a public gym. There's also a selection of brand new 4G pitches and multi-use courts on-campus so you can play outdoor sports like football, basketball and hockey.

Every year Middlesex hosts The Annual Sports Ball, an event which recognizes their students' achievements and development in sport. Throughout the year there are sporting trips, including a ski-trip to France and a mountain biking weekend in Wales.

Master in Ambient Assisted Living (MSc by Research)

Campus Full time Part time 1 - 2  May 2017 United Kingdom London + 1 more

This postgraduate research degree provides the opportunity for students who wish to undertake an Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) research project on any one of a wide range of interdisciplinary disciplines, to do so under the supervision of our team of experts. [+]

AAL is one of the major emerging technology markets of the moment, offering the potential to enable and empower citizens in their daily lives using state-of-the-art technologies. Known as 'assistive technologies' in some areas, AAL facilitates everyday activities for people who require care and support, augmenting their quality of life and assisting their independence. Thanks to advances in medicine and improved knowledge of the links between lifestyle and health, a large proportion of the world is living longer. Diseases like Alzheimer's naturally increase proportionally with life expectancy and this has huge implications for those affected, their family, the healthcare sector and society in general. Those using wheelchairs or with conditions such as autism and Down's syndrome can also benefit from AAL, as these novel technologies can be used to support independence inside and outside the home, when travelling or at work – stimulating socialisation and promoting more positive lifestyles. Perhaps the most compelling case for AAL is the use of smart homes to support independent living for people of older age, but many other applications exist or are in development. Billions of euros have been invested in the technologies through the European Union's Framework Programmes since 2007, such as the three-year Poseidon project currently supported by Middlesex University. These projects are bringing a proliferation of new systems, requiring a combination of new equipment, software, interfaces, and services. [-]
