Location: Streatham Campus, Exeter This programme is suited to anyone wishing to deepen their knowledge of accounting and finance, and who wants to enter a career in financial markets; either as an analyst, as a professional accountant, or as a preparation for further research at PhD level. You will develop your ability to apply and evaluate the various models and methods that practitioners use to solve practical accounting and financial problems. The MSc Accounting and Finance is designed to deliver financial expertise with an emphasis on understanding the accounting process. You will gain insight into accounting processes within the firm (management accounting) and into external reporting and its relevance to company valuation (financial accounting). The programme gives you a solid grounding in the fundamentals of financial management and financial accounting, and will sharpen your quantitative skills in finance. You can specialise your knowledge further by selecting options in subjects such as derivatives, investment analysis, international portfolio management, corporate finance, banking, international financial management and many others. We offer a programme of visiting speakers and a series of study weekends in which practising fund managers and finance experts from the City share their expertise through a combination of seminars, discussions and practical project work. In addition, non-assessed intensive computing training, covering Thomson Reuters Datastream and other financial databases and software systems, is incorporated into relevant modules. [-]

MSc in Behavioural Economics and Finance

Location: Streatham Campus, Exeter Our MSc Economics programmes are intended to deepen your knowledge and understanding of economics as an academic discipline. Each programme draws upon the internationally-rated research undertaken within the department and the experience of our academics in developing economic policy at organisations such as such as the Bank of England, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the United Nations. A central objective of all of the programmes is to provide you with insight into the latest thinking in economics. You will attend a series of research seminars, during which you can discuss and present current research papers. You can also participate in the departmental seminars, which attract external academics and provide you with the opportunity to gain insight into current research in economics and econometrics. Our postgraduate economics degrees form part of the ESRC South West Doctoral Training Centre – a hub of world-class social sciences research. For UK and EU students, this means you can apply to the ESRC for funding assistance with both tuition fees and living expenses if you are intending to progress to a PhD. The MSc programme in Behavioural Economics and Finance combines the intellectual rigour of a standard MSc in Economics with the insights stemming from the intersection of economics, social psychology and cognition. It provides the quantitative training of standard microeconomics, with a thorough grounding in the research methodology behind experimental economics, whether applied to laboratory studies, or to field experiments. Location: Streatham Campus, Exeter The MSc Finance and Investment is designed for graduates interested in following a career in investment analysis or portfolio management. Based upon a programme developed over 40 years ago, the programme provides excellent training for employment in the financial sector. It will prepare you for the challenge of a career in finance by providing a broad knowledge base, combined with extensive practical sessions, to help develop your confidence and ability. You can study the programme in an intensive nine-month format, or over 12 months. With both formats you will gain a firm foundation in research methods for investment and finance, investment analysis, financial management, and financial instruments. If studying over nine months, you then select six or seven optional modules. With the 12-month format you will undertake four optional modules in addition to the investment analysis dissertation. In addition, non-assessed intensive computer training covering Thomson Reuters Datastream and other financial databases and software systems, is incorporated into relevant modules. The School has an agreement with the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) which confers the status of CISI Centre of Excellence upon the Xfi Centre for Finance and Investment. As a student on the MSc Finance and Investment you will be eligible for the award of the CISI Diploma and will therefore receive a globally recognised, professional certificate in addition to your Masters degree. Location: Streatham Campus, Exeter The MSc in Financial Analysis and Fund Management is a very challenging programme that offers students the opportunity to study for the level I and level II CFA® exams at the same time as the M.Sc. Financial Analysis and Fund Management. The MSc in Financial Analysis and Fund Management is one of a limited number of programmes globally which has been awarded ‘Programme Partner’ Status by the CFA® institute, this means that the programme covers at least 70 per cent of the CFA® level I and II syllabus. Run by the Xfi Centre for Finance and Investment, it is a twelve month full-time programme, and is designed for those wishing to learn fundamental and advanced theory in investment analysis. Students on this programme will have access to a dedicated Thomson Reuters lab and in addition to Datastream and other financial databases and software systems. Location: Streatham Campus, Exeter We offer three variants of our MSc International Management: a general programme plus two pathways, which are reflected in the programme title on graduation, namely: - MSc International Management - MSc International Management with Marketing - MSc International Management with Entrepreneurship and Innovation This programme allows you to tailor your subject choices in line with your interests or planned career path. You will enrol initially on the MSc International Management, and thereafter elect a pathway depending on your particular areas of interest. We offer different optional modules depending on your pathway. This programme is an ideal route into the management of organisations working in global markets. It draws upon substantial expertise across the School in the areas of management, international business, marketing, strategy, economics, operations, accounting and finance to give you the latest ideas in management thinking and an overview of how global organisations work today. You can study the programme in an intensive nine-month format, or over 12 months. With both formats you study international business, marketing, operations, human resource management and accounting in the first term, and strategy and economics in the second term. If studying over nine months, you then select four options from the full range of management modules and complete in June. With the 12-month format you undertake three management options in the second term, and start preparation on a dissertation project which you continue to work on over the summer, completing in September. Please note that offers will be made for the 9 month pathway unless the application clearly states a preference for the 12 month pathway. Location: Streatham Campus, Exeter The MSc International Tourism Management programme will equip you with the skills and insights required by corporate strategists, international event managers, destination marketers, customer relationship managers and also for a wide range of impact assessment roles in the private and public sectors. Our highly regarded research methods training involves all the skills that you need to undertake primary and secondary data collection and analysis, with detailed training on SPSS and NVivo data analysis software packages. By the end of the programme you will have the skills to understand and critically evaluate statistical reports and industry related tourism data. Our dissertation module is the flagship of our programme, where you get to demonstrate and apply all the research skills you have acquired to understand a contemporary tourism management issue. We encourage students to pick a dissertation subject that not only interests them, but is directly related to the kind of employment they are looking to secure following their graduation. A unique aspect of our programme is our close links to the events industries, with ex-industry specialists and academic expertise in this area delivering our Event Management module. In addition, our Work Based Learning module allows our students to go into a range of positions to provide short term consultancy work for business clients and is another aspect of our programme that we are very proud of.
