State University Higher School of Economics

Introduction

The Higher School of Economics was founded on November 27th, 1992, by an Ordinance of the RF Government.

In October 2009 the Higher School of Economics received the status of a National Research University.

On December 23rd, 2010, the University received the status of an autonomous educational institution (Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation #1109 'On the creation of a federal state autonomous educational institution of higher professional education "National Research University - Higher School of Economics"').

As per October 1st, 2010, over 16 000 students are studying at the HSE. 11375 undergraduate, 2659 master's, and 587 doctoral students are studying at the HSE in Moscow.

The HSE has 3 regional branches: St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Perm.

The HSE faculty includes 1500 professors and researchers, among them almost 700 specialists invited as part-timers from the areas of business, research institutes, and state bodies. 345 Doctors of Science and 909 Candidates of Science work at the HSE. Over 1800 administrative workers are employed at the HSE.

Education

The system of education at the HSE ensures the competitiveness of Russian education in its most urgently needed and, at the same time, weakest sphere - economics and social sciences. The School was the first in Russia to adopt the commonly accepted world-wide "4+2" practice: four years of undergraduate study and two years for Master's courses.

In September 2007 ICEF launched a Master’s programme in Financial Economics in academic cooperation with LSE supported by several Russian and international corporate donors with the aim of training top international-level experts in Economics and Finance. The programme is both academically rigorous and applied. Its curriculum is a unique blend of the core courses in Micro- and Macroeconomics, Econometrics, Asset pricing and Corporate finance, and applied courses in various fields of Economics and Finance. Programme graduates start their careers as professional economists or analysts at financial institutions (including Sberbank, the Central Bank of Russia, HSBC, UBS), non-financial companies (Sibur, Renault) or continue their studies at the doctoral level in top universities (such as LSE).   ...
