A Agrarian School of Viseu (ESAV), criada oficialmente em 19 de Dezembro de 1994 (DL n.º 304/94), é uma das unidades orgânicas do Instituto Politécnico de Viseu, integrando-se na rede de ensino superior público português, ao nível do ensino politécnico. So it was continued the tradition, because the Viseu city had the privilege of being a pioneer in agricultural education in Portugal by creating the Agricultural Training School of Viseu, by decree of December 16, 1852.

The ESAV want to convey and disseminate knowledge with a view to training students with advanced skills in the areas of agricultural sciences, food and veterinary; promote applied research and its dissemination, cultural, scientific and technological exchanges with similar national and international institutions and the relationship with the business community in order to contribute to the development of the region and the country.

Thus, the objectives of ESAV based on three aspects: - Quality Education, through the transmission of technical and scientific knowledge constantly updated and accurate, focused on the use of key technologies for training students in the fields of agricultural production and zootechnical, ecology and landscaping, forestry, biosystems, food industries and even veterinary nursing.

  • Construction of bridges with the community through technical and scientific support, projects, services, consultancy firms, institutional organizations both regionally, nationally and internationally. Thus, being able to give information, transmitting knowledge, mobilizing support and wills, facts no doubt fundamental for the integration of the school in the middle. The quality of education minister, spurred by the success of the application of the principles of the Bologna Declaration, clearly demonstrates this fact.
  • Desenvolvimento de actividades de investigação, experimentação e divulgação de conhecimentos nos domínios das ciências agrárias, alimentares e veterinárias, permitindo o avanço dos sectores de produção respectivos. Estas actividades são dinamizadas pelo corpo docente cada vez mais qualificado, estando permanentemente empenhado em contribuir para o sucesso educativo dos estudantes, sendo evidência desse facto a elevada percentagem de doutores.

A ESAV localiza-se numa zona nobre da cidade de Viseu, na Quinta da Alagoa, com cerca de 23 hectares. Possuindo inúmeras culturas, destacando-se a vinha, o pomar e o olival. Counting even with livestock production structures of sheep, goats, cattle, poultry and rabbits, as well as a Veterinary Nursing Center and laboratories with technologies that enable acquisition of skills in various technical and scientific fields.

Visando uma formação vocacionada para uma plena inserção na vida activa dos seus estudantes, a ESAV dispõe de um corpo de funcionários, docentes e não docentes, qualificado e motivado.
