Introduction

Opole University of Technology (OUTech) is an internationally oriented leading high-tech university in Poland. We provide education mostly in the area of technical science but also in the fields of management, tourism, sport and physiotherapy. Our scientific and educational potential is built by high-class academic and research staff. Thanks to collaboration with the finest local companies and valuable foreign partnerships, our students get a first-hand practical knowledge and skills adjusted to the requirements of the current global market standards. Our research transcends traditional fields of engineering, combining the specialized technical sciences with economics, administration, sport and medical sciences. OUTech was established in 1966 and has nearly 50 years of academic tradition. We educate 8 000 students including up to 400 international students per year. The University employs over 900 staff members including 540 academic teachers, 143 professors and over 20 foreign scholars.

LOCATION

Our University is located in the beautiful city of Opole, in the south-west part of Poland, Europe. The city is the capital of Opolskie Region (11 counties, area 9,412.5 km3, population : 1,044,346, urban - 55%, rural 45%, density 110/km2).Opole is a modern, middle-sized European city with the population of 130,000. It is the largest economic, academic, scientific and cultural centre of the region.Opole is situated along Pan-European Road Corridor III. The A4 International Motorway links Opole with Western and Eastern Europe. The distance between Opole and the central Europe capital cities is as follows: Warsaw - 320 km, Berlin - 420 km, Prague - 291 km, Vienna - 356 km, Budapest - 500 km. The highway and railway connection systems guarantee convenient access to the international airports: Wrocław Copernicus Airport (90 km) and Katowice International Airport (100 km), Warsaw Chopin Airport (330 km). A high-speed train journey from Warsaw last about 3 hours.

Our research is focused on groundbreaking technologies and innovations. Thanks to the latest investments and infrastructure modernization our students and scientists in laboratories furnished with a high-class research equipment. Only recently we have established Centre for Energetic Safety at the Highway of Innovation and Technology Institute.
Our students do real science – they discover and invent projects such as the international recognized MouseBOX, (currently seeking investors in China), the European Rover Challenge’s laureate Chameleon Vehicle or the Solar Bike. We also organize a highly –acclaimed TEDEX events.

COOPERATION WITH REGIONAL GOVERNMENT, BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY

The Golden Triangle model leads to the real implementation of science. As the technical university OUTech plays an increasingly important role in our technology based economy. We strongly cooperate with business and industry. Our cooperation is reflected in our education offer but also in the significant role played by the University for the whole region. Our professionals take part in strategic negotiations with prospective investors, demonstrating our high potential for a future collaboration. The business and industry specialist deliver expert lectures to our students providing a first-hand knowledge and skills.. We are involved numerous critical regional projects such as Regional Innovation Strategy 2020 or Effective knowledge transfer from science to industry. We are participating in the Opole Power Plant development project crucial for the national energetic safety. Together with the city council we develop the Opole Science and Technology Park. We closely collaborate with local international companies such as POLARIS (US) or IMF ECOLINK (Germany), adjusting our educational programs to the needs of present and future local and global markets. Our academics and graduates work in international Research & Developments Centers. Together with our long-term partner Chemnitz University of Technology we organize the Polish-German Bridge Conference, creating valuable international research-industry opportunities co-financed by European Union.

UNIVERSITY INTERNATIONALIZATION

For years we have been building a multicultural and miscellaneous academic milieu. We develop educational and research partnerships with various partners from all over Europe, Americas (US, Brazil) and Asia (China, India and Malaysia). Each year we welcome a great deal of students, lectures and specialists from all over the World.

We influence, support and develop international cooperation of Polish engineering higher-education institutions. We have contributed to the collaborative agreements between Polish & Portuguese and Polish and Ukrainian technical universities. We organized the pioneering Polish-Portuguese Academic Energy Summit.

In years 2013-15 we have been a leader of international Consortium PROGRES 3 created to foster cross-border scientific cooperation and facilitate more effective planning, management and realization of joint education and research projects as well as to enhance economic situation of local societies between 14 partner universities from Czech, Slovakia and Poland. We cooperate with over 100 European universities in frame of Erasmus+ mobility program. Each year we welcome around 200 Erasmus students, offering them the wide range of subjects in English. More than 200 of our students and academic staff annually take opportunity to study, teach or receive training abroad.

Since 2008 we have been collaborating with Illinois State University, US. The students of physical education, physiotherapy and health sciences participate in our exchange program and the Polish-US Summer School.

In 2007, as a result of earlier cooperation with one of the most important academic institutions in China - Beijing University of Technology – our University signed an agreement with HANBAN (Office of Chinese Language Council International) establishing OPOLE CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE - CENTRE OF POLAND-CHINA COOPERATION, considered as one of the best institutes in Europe promoting Chinese culture and language. We are the only university in this part of Europe to sign the collaborative agreement with Chongqing Jiaotong University, China - the “One road one belt“ agreement is a part of a huge transcontinental program called ‘The New Silk Road’. We regularly participate in education fairs and national educational missions abroad representing Polish technical universities and promoting education offer all over the World IEEE Opole Division helps our students to expand their interests in electrical engineering and computer science through the American and the world’s largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. Our long-term relations with embassies and consulates result in regular visits of a high-ranked diplomats and foreign government representatives such as ambassadors of US, China, India, Germany, Netherlands, Austria or Malaysia.

Our Faculty of Mechanical Engineering offers a prestigious master degree program in Environmental Engineering, specialization: Advanced Technologies in Environmental Engineering (ATEE) in English.

SUPPORT AND MENTORING

Students are provided all the necessary support from our cooperative and enthusiastic team of International Relations Office. They are also offered a mentoring assistance by our International Student Mentor Club.

ACCOMMODATION

Students are offered a comfortable and newly renovated single or multiple occupancy rooms for a price up to 100 EURO (74 GBP). Rooms have free Wi-Fi access. Student dormitories are situated at the 1st University Campus with an easy access the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Students Service Center, Main Library Conference Center and Student Canteen and 15-minute walking distance to the city center and facilities of our Faculty of Economics and Management and Faculty of Civil Engineering.

SPORT FACILITIES

Modern sport facilities are available to the students at our 2nd University Campus. Our University Sport Club provides further opportunities for a range of sports. The facilities are directly equipped for basketball, handball, volleyball, athletics, fitness, aerobics etc. The brand-new municipal swimming pool and ice-skating rink are also available.

INTERNATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering offers 3 semester MSc studies in the field of study in Environmental Engineering in the specialization: Advanced Technologies in Environmental Engineering. The language of instruction is English. Limited number is 20 students. The Master's Degree Studies in Advanced Technologies in Environmental Engineering is dedicated to holders of bachelor diploma in Environmental Engineering, Biotechnology, Chemical and Process Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mining and Geological, Mechanical Engineering and Machine Design, Mechanics, Power Industry Engineering, as well as Mechatronics. The ATEE graduates will obtain knowledge in environmental engineering and experience in environment protection technologies. They will be prepared for solving problems in sustainable development and technology. Courses are divided into 3 groups: Basic and major courses i.e. Environmental Statistics, Computer Aided Design, Advanced Environmental Chemistry, Modern Materials in Engineering Applications, Safety and Reliability of Engineering Systems, Heat and Mass Transfer Processes Design, Bioprocess Engineering, Environmental Analytics, Data Bases and Advanced GIS. Specialization courses are grouped in modules such as: Waste and Water Treatment, Advanced Technologies in Waste Management, Air Protection and Advanced Energy Technologies; selective courses: (2 humanities and 3 technical courses to choose from) humanities courses: Sustainable Development for Engineers, Communication and Negotiations in Business, Ethics in Business, Creativity Training and technical courses: Energy Consumption of Industrial Processes, Chemical Reactors Engineering, Mass Exchanger Design, Spatial Planning and Urban Design, Multiphase Flow in Environmental Technology, and Advanced Environmental Metrology. Job prospects: ATEE graduates are able to design, maintain and operate the systems of air protection, treatment of water and wastewater, waste management, as well as energy and may work in the private sector, industry and governmental administration. The profile of the graduate is suitable for working at universities in research and development institutions.
