The curricula of VHL University of Applied Sciences focus on the domains Delta Areas and Resources - Food and Dairy - Animal and Business. Alongside Bachelor programmes, we also provide Master’s programmes, Certificate programmes and short courses for regional, national and international students. As a university of applied sciences, we conduct high-quality practice-based research which enhances both our teaching and our position as a research institute.

VHL University of Applied Sciences is based on two locations in the Netherlands: Leeuwarden and Velp. The environmentally friendly building in Leeuwarden has green houses on its roof. The Velp site is situated on the Larenstein estate – a wonderful area for the practical ‘green’ programmes.

The agricultural industry is currently more vibrant and resourceful than ever before, with both company expansions and bankruptcy occurring on a regular basis. With production chains stretching from desolate farms in South East Asia to the bustling market places of Northern America – the world will be your work place! The programme has three distinct phases: analysis of value chains, development of value chains and management of value chains. The aim is to enable graduates to manage organisations or companies involved in agricultural production chain development in line with fluctuations in demands and policies. With two unique specialisations in horticulture and livestock chains, VHL is ready to equip you for working the world of animals, flowers and food. From farm to fork or field to market, this programme has all the basics you need to start your own business or manage someone else’s.                 The Master of Management and Development is aimed at rural development professionals, already working in the rural development sector. This top-rated programme is renowned for its international learning environment, team projects and effective incorporation of work experience. Relevant work experience is essential to the course as students contribute and use their previously obtained know-how. Most candidates come from a background in agriculture or rural development. Graduates leave as competent rural development professionals prepared to support service delivery organisations, NGO’s or other development-related organisation in the area of food security, innovation and social inclusion. So, if you wish to improve your organisation’s programmes and policies, then come and join VHL! This programme consists of a nine-month teaching period and a three-month research project, culminating in a thesis. It involves a series of competency-building modules that advance your disciplinary expertise and improve your professional skills.
