Introduction

HEM Business School – Institut des Hautes Etudes de Management (Institute of Graduate Management Studies)- is a private Moroccan business school, recognized on May 24th, 1988 by the Ministry of National Education, as per decree # 28/88, as a higher education, training and research institute.

Founded by M. Abdelali BENAMOUR, president of the Conseil de la Concurrence (Competition Council), a former professor at Hassan II University and the Dean of the Higher Institute of Business Administration- ISCAE-, HEM Business School is initially the fruit of a partnership with La Banque Centrale Populaire.

In 2013, IFC (International Finance Corporation), a member of the WORLD BANK Group, invested in HEM and became its institutional shareholder. This strategic partnership is a direct IFC investment in HEM to support the expansion plans of the Group.

IFC’s equity investment in HEM marks its first direct involvement with the education sector in Morocco.

Set up as a "Grande Ecole", HEM Business School selects students for admission based chiefly on national ranking in competitive exams and the completion of dedicated preparatory classes. HEM Business school does not have large student bodies and extends courses applying close supervision and interactive educational methods with a strong cultural and professional emphasis.

Over two decades of existence, HEM Business School has thus built a model based on strong values and relevant to our country's social and economic realities. The is a pure product of Moroccan skills and yet is open on the world though renowned partnerships.

As far as "knowledge" is concerned, HEM Business School has opted for multi-skilled technical, management and general culture related knowledge.

"Knowing how to act," refers to training managers with behavioral and self-management skills; individuals who are fulfilled, confident, open, and able to adapt and develop ethical relationships with their partners. At the same time, "know-how" is important: train managers who committed to excellence and who know how to adapt, innovate, communicate and be able to show discipline and method.

  • Effort: Engage with passion and excel in serving individual and collective ambitions.

Designed with a competitive admission exam and a continuous assessment system, HEM Business School Grande Ecole Program is a five year course in two cycles. The first three years cycle aims at providing students with basics in management, whilst strengthening their general knowledge, speaking capacities, as well as communication and methodological skills. The first two years are an integrated preparatory course, whereas the third year focuses on the various corporate functions. Reinforcing the Grande Ecole Program in 2015 In the context of HEM’s educational innovation policy and its three-year plan 2015-2017, the Grande Ecole Program is reinforced as of Fall 2015 taking into account the corporate world’s continually growing demand and the new needs & behaviors of younger generations. This reinforcement is based on two major dimensions: Review of programs and content for the purpose of: highlighting the gist of the courses for a clearer understanding by the student, taking into consideration the latest management trends. Revision of teaching methods and educational tools for the purpose of: enabling the student to grasp and better integrate the essential elements of the course by introducing regular sessions of synthesis, called “crystallization” guiding the students towards more learning of the methodology and reasoning so that they could gain autonomy, introducing e-learning tools to improve learning efficacy. Courses organization HEM Business School Grande Ecole Program runs for 5 years, that is 10 semesters and seven modules: Module 1: Communication Module 2: Economic, Legal and Social Environment Module 3: Quantitative Methods of Management Module 4: Enterprise Management and Functions Module 5: General Management Module 6: Options (Majors) Module 7: Internships During each semester, several courses are extended and may consist of 1.5 credits, 3 credits or 4.5 credits. Content wise, the course is divided as follows: A 3-credit course (36 hours) = 18 hours + 12 hours of supervised homework + 6 hours of methodology - in progress monitoring. A course of 4.5 credits (54 hours) = 24 hours + 21 hours of supervised homework + 9 hours of methodology - in progress monitoring. A 6-credit course (72 hours) = 36 hours + 27 hours of supervised homework + 9 hours of methodology - in progress monitoring. For a proper student integration, the first year starts with a five week preparatory and linguistic refresher period, including a welcoming week and four weeks of classes. During the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year, the season starts with a welcoming period and preparatory activities for one week. The two semesters of each year are then followed by a period of: Completion which ensures as well that students are ready for oral tests ; Completion of the all pending homework assignments, in 2 weeks, for sophomore and senior students; 2 weeks to prepare oral examinations for junior students (senior students no longer benefit from this preparation period in their fifth year).
