Ohrid

Ohrid is one of the most ancient human settlements in Europe. It is a touristic, cultural and spiritual center of Macedonia. Placed on the shore of Lake Ohrid, which is estimated to be about 3 million old and is one of the oldest lakes in the world, the City of Ohrid together with the lake is placed on the list of UNESCO World Heritage. Ohrid has the advantages of a modern town with glorious past and rich culture in a truly idyllic setting. It’s a blend of history and modern life. Ohrid offers you a possibility for stay and study in a healthy environment full of tradition and cultural values. Its pleasant natural environment is intersected with modern social and cultural lifestyle.

One full scholarship will be awarded to a candidate from each of the eligible countries:

The scholarship provides for:

  • full tuition fees;
  • visa and residence permit fees
  • return air fare from the applicant’s home country;
  • accommodation and food (full board) at the University’s dorm “Nikola Karev” in Ohrid, the Republic of Macedonia;
  • a monthly allowance of 5,000 MKD (approximately 82 EUR); The deadline for submission of applications is July 31, 2015

Master Degree in Computational Biology Introduction Computational biology is one of the most exciting areas of modern science. With the latest technological advancements molecular biology and related fields approach information sciences, algorithms, computer tools and analysis of massive data bases. Individual medicine becomes a reality. The constant stream of new technologies, new data and new insights guarantees vibrant and satisfying future research, and creates continuous professional opportunities in the industry and academia. Computational biology is a scientific discipline that refers to the use of computers to perform automated analysis of the data or to model hypotheses in the field of biology. Through computational biology researchers apply mathematics on biological phenomena using computer programming and algorithms in order to model the phenomenon, and thus statistically process data and interpret information. Through this program, students will gain knowledge about the different techniques of application of computational biology in areas such as molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, evolutionary biology, biotechnology, and population biology. Program Outcomes The goal of the program is to provide graduates who will be able to identify and model biological phenomena, and to program new models for execution. The curriculum is designed for students with basic mathematical preparation, basic programming skills and technical skills for data analysis. Through the program students will gain mathematical quantitative skills, including probability theory and numerical methods for computing. The biological part of the curriculum will be supported by an increase in the quantum of knowledge in the field of molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, evolutionary biology, biotechnology, and population biology. Different engineering methods will be learnt and simulation models to predict results. Master Degree in Information Science and Technology Introduction Communication networks is an exciting area that is developing very rapidly and getting a lot of attention from scientists and the academic community. However, what is more important is the fact that companies and private/public institutions give an enormous importance to their computer network infrastructure, due to the reason that today nothing can be done without data communication. Consequently, any communication network should have security mechanisms that ensure protection against data theft, data loss, information leak and any kind of intrusion that aims at breaking through and tampering with confidential and copyrighted material. Master studies of Communication Networks and Security aims at producing highly educated, skilled and prepared professionals who will be able to cope with any local or international environment, be it a private company, an institution or the academia. Students through their presence and participation in the whole studying process will have an active role in the conduct of the study program. Students as consumer‐beneficiary will have an active role in the whole educational and scientific research process, organization of expert and scientific meetings, debates, research seminars where they will have an opportunity to research directly and familiarize with the scientific field. This program has the purpose of developing the capacity for critical analysis in students and finding effective solutions to given problems. The study program for the second cycle of studies at UIST covers core courses in advanced programming algorithms and mathematical methods, computer vision, high performance computing, data mining and embedded systems.
