Introduction

The Departments of Business of the universities of Joensuu and Kuopio were merged on 1 September 2009 to constitute the business and management studies of the University of Eastern Finland. Business School has campuses in Joensuu and Kuopio. Our main purpose is to provide high-quality education and research.

We educate students towards degrees in Economic Sciences at Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral levels. Our theme areas are Accounting and Finance (Kuopio Campus), Business and Law (Joensuu Campus), Innovation Management (Kuopio Campus), and Service Management (Joensuu Campus).

Studies

The mission of Business School emphasizes cross-disciplinary and internationally acknowledged approaches to research and teaching. Our aim is also to contribute to the development of local business life and the wellbeing of society as a whole.

Following our mission we excel in:

We are honored to have student exchange agreements with more than 20 universities across the world. Each year dozens of exchange students study at the Business School for one or two semesters. For visiting students we provide a wide range of business courses also in English.

MSc in Innovation Management MAKE IT DIFFERENT Thinking outside the box is critical for organisational competitiveness and survival. This has created a need for a new type of business professional with an understanding of how innovation, change and renewal are initiated and achieved in organisations. The Master’s Degree Programme in Innovation Management provides students with expertise in initiating and leading change in enterprises and other organisations. Students will learn how to manage projects and processes around product and service design, human resources, strategy and in sales, marketing and customer care. Students learn to identify opportunities for renewal, to apply the right methods and tools for innovation and change and to implement challenging development projects within specific areas of business. Students will also improve their communication and co-operation competence as well as information-seeking, analytical and problem-solving skills. They will acquire the confidence to take initiative, make decisions and carry things through in a responsible manner. They will also learn to assess the outcomes of innovation and change initiatives. Graduates will find opportunities in various types of organisations: from small enterprises to the business units of multinational companies and public-sector organisations. Students specialising in innovation management typically begin their careers as team leaders, project leaders, experts and consultants, moving on to line manager and managerial positions. Many of our graduates start their own businesses or take a position in family enterprises. What will you learn? The two-year programme will equip you to act as an innovator or change agent in enterprises and other organisations. The scholarship is applied for when applying for admission to the university by filling out the relevant section of the application form. The decision about the scholarship is made in connection with student admission, and the student is notified of the matter in the letter of acceptance. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of the student's academic achievements described in the admission criteria. The scholarship is personal and it is awarded for two academic years.
