Introduction

Frederick University is an energetic and vibrant private university operating in the Republic of Cyprus, a member state of the European Union. Frederick University was established after a decision by the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cyprus on 12th September 2007. Although the establishment of the University is relatively recent, the organisation has a long history of more than 40 years in higher education. Frederick University operates from two campuses, the main campus in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus and the other campus in Limassol, the second largest city.

The main objectives of Frederick University are:

Schools and Departments

The supreme academic body at Frederick University is the Senate, which is responsible for all academic work undertaken including:

  • the delivery and development of the academic programs of study,
  • the advancement of basic and applied research, and
  • the promotion and strengthening of academic relationships between the University and external agents of the society (the Government, professional bodies, the industry, ...)

The University academically is organised into Schools, each School administratively managed by the School Dean. Schools are themselves organised into Departments, with each Department managed by the Department President. Both School Deans and Department Heads are elected from the Teaching and Research faculty of the corresponding body.

Departments offer Programs of Study, either at undergraduate or at postgraduate level. In the university, inter-Departmental and inter-School programs, commonly managed among more than one Departments / Schools, are also present.

Βασικοί Σκοποί Το Μεταπτυχιακό Πρόγραμμα στην Ειδική Εκπαίδευση στοχεύει στην παροχή γνώσεων και δεξιοτήτων, τόσο σε θεωρητικό όσο και σε πρακτικό επίπεδο, οι οποίες είναι απαραίτητες για την εκπαίδευση και υποστήριξη των μαθητών με ειδικές εκπαιδευτικές ανάγκες στα γενικά και τα ειδικά σχολεία. Στοχεύει στην παροχή γνώσεων, στην ευαισθητοποίηση, και στην εκπαίδευση πτυχιούχων Παιδαγωγικών και άλλων Πανεπιστημιακών Τμημάτων σε θέματα Ειδικής Ενταξιακής Εκπαίδευσης. Το πρόγραμμα αυτό θα παρέχει επιστημονική ενημέρωση όσον αφορά τον εντοπισμό, την αξιολόγηση αλλά και την αντιμετώπιση παιδιών με ειδικές ανάγκες μέσα στο γενικό σχολείο (γενική τάξη, ειδική μονάδα, ή εξατομικευμένη ειδική εκπαίδευση) αλλά και σε άλλους χώρους παροχής ειδικής εκπαίδευσης. Το παρόν Πρόγραμμα θα δώσει επίσης την ευκαιρία για την διεξαγωγή ερευνητικών έργων σε ένα τομέα στον οποίο δεν έχουν διεξαχθεί πολλές έρευνες μέχρι σήμερα, τουλάχιστον στον Κυπριακό χώρο. Κάθε μαθητής έχει διαφορετικά χαρακτηριστικά σε σχέση με την ψυχοσωματική του ανάπτυξη, τη γνωστική και γλωσσική του ικανότητα, την κοινωνικοποίηση και τη συναισθηματική του ανάπτυξη, στις περισσότερες περιπτώσεις οι διαφορές μεταξύ των παιδιών δεν είναι τόσο μεγάλες που θα χρειαζόταν διαφορετική προσέγγιση, σε άλλες όμως περιπτώσεις παιδιά παρουσιάζουν τέτοιες διαφορές με τα υπόλοιπα παιδιά της ίδια χρονολογικής ηλικίας που χρειάζεται ειδική εκπαιδευτική βοήθεια για να μπορέσει το παιδί να πάρει τα μέγιστα από την εκπαίδευση. Το πρόγραμμα στοχεύει στο να προετοιμάσει τον εκπαιδευτικό να εκπαιδεύσει, παιδαγωγήσει, στηρίξει, και γενικά να ενσωματώσει το παιδί στο σχολείο με συνέπεια και την καλύτερη ενσωμάτωση του στην κοινωνία. Τα μαθήματα του προγράμματος συμπεριλαμβάνουν θεωρητικά μαθήματα που ασχολούνται με γενικά, ειδικά και σύγχρονα θέματα ειδικής αγωγής και εκπαίδευσης αλλά και πιο πρακτικά μαθήματα που αφορούν στην διδακτική μεθοδολογία και στις στρατηγικές που χρησιμοποιούνται στην ειδική εκπαίδευση και την αντιρατσιστική αγωγή. Επίσης, μεταξύ άλλων, παρουσιάζεται η αναπτυξιακή πορεία σε όλους τους τομείς ανάπτυξης και οι πιθανές αποκλίσεις που μπορεί να υπάρξουν, αλλά και η συμπτωματολογία ποικίλων ειδικών αναγκών και ο τρόπος αξιολόγησης στην ειδική εκπαίδευση. Ο στόχος συνολικά είναι οι φοιτητές να αποκτήσουν ένα ευρύ και σταθερό επιστημονικό και παιδαγωγικό υπόβαθρο σε σχέση με την ενσωμάτωση συγκεκριμένων ομάδων μαθητών στις εκπαιδευτικές διαδικασίες αλλά και στην προαγωγή της ψυχοκοινωνικής του εξέλιξης. Αναμενόμενα Μαθησιακά Αποτελέσματα ή Στόχοι του Προγράμματος Με την επιτυχή συμπλήρωση του προγράμματος οι φοιτητές / - τριες αναμένεται να γνωρίζουν και να βλέπουν με κριτικό πνεύμα το σύνολο των θεμάτων που αφορούν την Ειδική Αγωγή και Εκπαίδευση. Πιο συγκεκριμένα αναμένεται: να γνωρίζουν θέματα που αφορούν: τον εννοιολογικό προσδιορισμό της ενιαίας και ενταξιακής εκπαίδευσης, διαφορετικά μοντέλα προσέγγισης της αναπηρίας, την ιστορική και θεσμική εξέλιξη της ειδικής αγωγής και του αιτήματος για ενταξιακή εκπαίδευση, καθώς και ζητήματα που αφορούν την εκπαιδευτική πράξη, όπως οι δομές και λειτουργίες του ειδικού και ενταξιακού σχολείου και η διαφοροποιημένη προσέγγιση στη διδασκαλία. να κατανοούν και να ενσωματώνουν βασικές έννοιες της ΠΕ και εναλλακτικά μοντέλα στη διαχείριση δύσκολων περιπτώσεων/μαθητών με Ειδικές εκπαιδευτικές Ανάγκες (ΕΕΑ). να κατανοούν θεωρητικά τα μοντέλα αλλά και να κάνουν κριτική ανάλυση των διαφόρων μεθόδων και ψυχοπαιδαγωγικών τεχνικών που χρησιμοποιούνται στο πλαίσιο της τάξης για την προαγωγή της ένταξης των μαθητών με ιδιαίτερες δυσκολίες. να έχουν μία διαφορετική αντίληψη για το σχολικό πλαίσιο, και να μπορούν να συνεργάζονται με άλλους ειδικούς και γονείς σε μία πάντοτε ενταξιακή υποστηρικτική προοπτική των μαθητών με ΕΕΑ. να κατανοούν τις βασικές αρχές οι οποίες διέπουν την ανάπτυξη του ατόμου στους βασικούς τομείς κατά τη διάρκεια της βρεφικής, νηπιακής, σχολικής και εφηβικής ηλικίας και να γνωρίσουν την τυπική πορεία της ανάπτυξης σε αυτούς τους τομείς. The aim of the Department Recognising the imperative need for specialising scientists in undertaking responsibly and methodically the preservation, protection and promotion of the unique monumental wealth of Cyprus, Frederick University offers a Postgraduate Program which aims at educating scientists of different specialisations in this field. This is a highly concise and practical program geared towards providing the state-of-the-art skills necessary for immediate entering or re-entering practice at the highest level. The aim of the program is to fully instruct students not only in the theories of the deontology and methodology concerning the protection and restoration of historical buildings, but also in the practices regarding materials and technologies, which are nowadays internationally applied in restoration projects. The program also aims to provide further technical knowledge in the area of conservation and restoration of historical structures and monuments and it is intended to provide the educational platform to encourage the development of competent, confident and inquisitive postgraduates who are able to link restoration and conservation theory with practice. Through the process of close examination and identification of the subject-matter, the students acquire the necessary assets allowing them to formulate compatible proposals for repairing, reinforcing, restoring or even changing the use of a historical building. The successful completion of the program requires also the submission of a research paper and a master’s thesis, covering a topic related to conservation and restoration of monuments or other relevant historical structures. Key Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this program, the students should be able to: Recognise a building structure in terms of its historical period, building type, typological and morphological identity. Obtain an in depth comprehension of the methodology of historical documentation of a structure. Acquire the ability and skills to search and index historical resources. Develop detailed knowledge on building analysis, recording of pathology and vulnerability of monuments. Organize and implement visual and instrumental valuation of the typical types of pathology of various types of historical buildings. Analyse and evaluate the dynamic and earthquake behaviour of historical monuments and structures. Provide further knowledge of conservation principles and develop an ability to interpret and evaluate restoration problems. Plan and execute a significant project of research, investigation or development within the context of conservation and restoration of historical buildings. Obtain an in depth knowledge of the World, European and National regulatory and legal framework, concerning the protection and restoration of monuments. Provide the scientific background for further studies or research. Critically review existing practice and develop original and creative solutions to problems. Further, the various areas of emphasis in the program aim to guide students into fields of study that are considered to be new in the Eastern Mediterranean region and offer significant opportunities for engaging in innovative research activities and learning. Specifically, issues incorporated in courses such as “Computational Mechanics and Applications”, “System Dynamics and Control“, “Process Modeling and Simulation“, “Analysis and Design of Offshore Mooring Structures“, provide important opportunities for MSc students to be involved with the various research activities that take place in Frederick University, as well as in other institutions worldwide. Through such course-interactions, students will also acquire valuable experience by developing and implementing their own research projects. The program is anchored in the area of Design, allowing each individual student to follow the areas of expertise provided by two major streams, which reflect the needs of upcoming new industries: Creative Practice for Applied Design Creative Practice for Communication Design In the steam of Creative Practice for Applied Design students will be introduced to space and form alternatives, curatorial and displaying practices, object and materiality issues, installation and art aesthetics. In the stream of Creative Practice for Communication Design students will be introduced to new media, moving image, animation and web design, alternative visualizing methods, interactivity and materiality issues.
