That’s why we created the Telfer Master of Science in Management. Think differently Our program is purposely designed to enable you to fully exploit the revolutionary power of great questions: We empower you with the intellectual confidence and awareness to ask penetrating, original questions. We equip you with the research perception and skills necessary to gather and synthesize data related to those questions. And we help you unleash the talent needed to identify patterns in these data, reveal clear, logical explanations of those patterns, and move closer to uncovering trailblazing answers. In short, we prepare you to think differently—to challenge yourself to look at challenging questions related to business, management, human behaviour and social interaction from original perspectives, and then find equally novel ways to uncover empirically driven answers to those penetrating questions. We’re not an MBA program The Telfer MSc in Management is not an MBA program. Our focus on discovering illuminating answers to strikingly original questions is what separates us from MBA programs. To be precise, we zero in on helping you unlock powerful new insights into how people behave individually, interact with one another and conduct themselves individually and collectively within organizations. What We Offer Apply and develop your management knowledge The Telfer Master of Science in Management attracts a broad range of talented, ambitious candidates. Our tremendous appeal is the direct result of four main program features: We emphasize innovation management, entrepreneurship and finance—three key areas of study that can be examined from a wide variety of management perspectives. We offer elective courses in various disciplines, such as finance, based on student interest and demand. We take full advantage of our location in the capital city of a G8 country. We hold an extensive series of management-research seminars throughout the year. We propel you along a logical path of gradually more in-depth learning opportunities. We emphasize innovation management and entrepreneurship At the Telfer MSc in Management, we concentrate on three of the most vital topics in business and government: Innovation management — to enable you to examine how organizations foster, manage and fully exploit advanced products, systems and processes. Entrepreneurship — to make it possible for you to delve into how new companies and organizations grow, develop entrepreneurial creativity among employees, and follow opportunities and pursue new directions as a result of market changes. Finance — to examine mergers and acquisitions, payout policy, capital structure, corporate governance, executive compensation, corporate social responsability, applied financial econometrics, and initial public offerings. These three areas of study are incredibly inclusive. You can use them to apply and develop the knowledge you’ve gained already from one of a range of management disciplines: marketing, finance, human resources, e-business, accounting, information systems, international management — and beyond. We hold an extensive series of exclusive seminars Our program sponsors and organizes an annual series of seminars. Fittingly titled the Management Research Seminar Series, this exclusive year-long forum enables you to get up close with management-research experts from other prestigious schools, major corporations, key government departments, leading research labs and venture-capital networks. Students also use this valuable series to reveal their thesis proposals, share their research findings and receive feedback from professors and other students on their work. We propel you along a logical path of learning opportunities The Telfer Master of Science in Management progresses along a clear, rational path that exposes you to a comprehensive range of learning opportunities: You devote your first two six-month semesters of the 24-month program to a mix of core and elective courses. You present your thesis proposal to the thesis committee for approval by the end of your second semester. You may begin an internship anytime after your thesis proposal has been approved. You research and prepare your thesis during your third six-month semester. Follow a logical sequence The students complete the Telfer Master of Science in Management in 24 months: You dedicate your first two semesters to completing core and elective courses, and working on your thesis proposal. You must present your thesis proposal to the Thesis Committee for approval by the end of your second semester. You can gain hands-on research training by choosing to do the Research Internship (optional). Admission Criteria A four-year bachelor's (honours) degree in management (BCom), health sciences, life sciences, medicine, nursing, computer science, economics, social sciences, engineering, mathematics or a related field, or its equivalent. Non- business applicants must have a foundation in management (equivalent to a minor in business) and may be asked to complete prerequisite courses as a condition of admission; Minimum B+ (75%) cumulative grade point average (CGPA); A competitive score in the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). The GRE test is also accepted; English proficiency; An interview with admission committee may be required. Application Deadline International: January 15 Canada and U.S.A.: March 1 Admission Tests GMAT & GRE The MSc in Management offered in English requires one of the two following Admission Tests: Graduate Management Admission Test® (GMAT®): a minimum overall score of the 50th percentile and at least the 45th percentile on each of the four individual components. Graduate Record Examinations (GRE): students should aim for at least the 50th percentile on each of the individual components. N.B. GRE Subject Tests will not be accepted. Language Requirements Candidates whose first language is neither English nor French are required, must submit ONE of the following to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies to confirm their English proficiency (the test scores cannot be more than two years old as of September 1 of the year of potential entry into the program): Proof of completion within the last five years, of a previous degree program in an English language university. Proof of recent prolonged residence and exercise of a profession in an English speaking country (normally at least four years over the last six years) A score of at least 100 (Internet-based) or 250 (computer-based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) A score of at least 7 in at least three of the four Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) tests (Reading, Listening, Writing, Speaking) and at least 6 in the fourth. The General Training IELTS test is not accepted. A score of at least 14 on the CANTEST , administered by the University of Ottawa, with no individual test score below 4.0, along with a score of 4.5 on the oral component of the test. A score of at least 68 on the Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE Academic) With respect to test scores, they cannot be more than two years old as of September 1 of the year of potential entry into the MSc.
