The Master in Maritime and Air Transport Management prepares its graduates for the challenges faced by the transport sector today. In the programme, students can choose one of three majors: transport research, air transport or maritime transport. Thus, students can tailor their programme to their specific interests and background. The majors air transport and maritime transport allow students to upgrade their knowledge and abilities and prepare them for their next career step in the maritime or air transport sector. Moreover, the main objective of these majors is to help executive staff members from transport related companies and organisations (shipping companies, port authorities, terminal operators,airlines, airports etc.) to become top-notch executives. The major transport research on the other hand offers students a more methodological and quantitative training. In this major, students receive an excellent preparation for a career in for example consulting, policy or research. Moreover, the major transport research can lay the groundwork for further academic pursuits such as a PhD. The Master in Maritime and Air Transport Management is specifically designed with an international audience in mind. It is aimed at individuals with a background in economics or management focusing on transport-related matters and who wish to develop their skills in these areas with a view to career advancement. Furthermore, students become truly submerged in industry practice during the course of the programmes. First, numerous excursions and company visits are organized as part of the various courses. During those visits students can strengthen the contact with industry and get an insight into state-of-the-art industry practices. The M.Sc. in Physics with specialisation in nanophysics provides advanced courses on the fundamental physics that determine the structure and govern the dynamics at the nanometer scale. Topics of direct interest are quantum physics and chemistry, nanoparticles, nanotubes and fullerenes, graphene, nanobiology, nanomagnetism, superconductivity, electron microscopy and spectroscopy, tomography etc. The courses are taught by renown scientists in their respective fields. We study political decision-making from the perspective of the citizen, the politician, the policy professional and institutions, using cases from local, national, European and international politics. During this master programme you will learn the science, craft and art of political decision-making an prepare for a career in politics, policymaking, public affairs, research, consultancy or the media. The programme is structured around a set of four core obligatory courses and one skills lab. The skills lab is a unique teaching method which allows you to practice some of the core skills involved in political decision-making, such as argumentation, negotiation and lobbying. “English” on the Master's level at the University of Antwerp amounts to a set of research-oriented courses in linguistics and literature that aims to provide the successful student with knowledge, skills and attitudes to pursue a variety of careers—either in (academic) teaching or the cultural sector at large. The M.A. in Linguistics and Literature: English offers a range of courses to choose from in the fields of both linguistics and literary studies. There is only one compulsory element - you must take at least one linguistics course and one literature course. The master thesis constitutes an important part of the degree and is worth 18 of the 60 ECTS credits. Literature topics include the American historical novel after 1950, the construction of age, and the work of Samuel Beckett. Linguistics courses include pragmatics, negation, and curriculum and syllabus design. [-]
