University of Western Sydney

Introduction

The University of Western Sydney (UWS) is a modern, progressive university committed to providing relevant courses for today’s rapidly changing world. We are one of Australia’s largest universities, with a student population of over 40,000. We offer a culturally diverse learning environment which attracts world class staff and students from across Australia and the world. As a metropolitan university, we have six campuses across Greater Western Sydney – a culturally diverse and growing region of economic opportunity. Each campus has its own unique atmosphere, with clean, green and friendly environments in which to learn. Each is easily accessible by public transport and provide either on-campus or nearby accommodation options.

As a research led university serving local, regional and international communities, UWS strives to be a university of international standing and outlook. We are inspired by the promise and challenge of the future, confident in our ability to make a real difference to the lives of our students and the communities we serve.

UWS academics top the nation, with 2 of our academics proud recipients of the Prime Minister’s Australian University Teacher of the Year award in 2011 and 2012. UWS is ranked 11th among Australia’s 39 universities for achievement in the prestigious Australian Research Council major grants and top-tier recognition in the Excellence in Research for Australia exercise. UWS has achieved the highest possible rank, ‘outstanding performance well above world standard’ in plant biology, forestry sciences and complementary medicine and ‘above world standard’ in eight additional areas including applied mathematics, cultural studies and ecology.

We aim to ‘Bring Knowledge to Life’ by combining academic study with hands-on practical experience. With undergraduate and postgraduate courses across nine academic schools, UWS can prepare you for personal and professional success in whatever field you choose to specialise in. Our state-of-the-art facilities include moot courts, our own media complex, nursing laboratories and confocal bio-imaging facilities. We value innovation, and learning techniques such as podcast lectures, access to an online learning portal and interactive classes ensure the time you spend with us is fulfilling, stimulating and rewarding.
