Market The need to train people to work in the yachting sector is based on the rapid and exponential growth recorded by this sector in recent years. This growth has been further encouraged by the issuing of provisions to encourage the development of this market (from simplifying procedures for port construction, to reducing the tax burden on recreational boats over 10 m. etc.). For this reason, the sector shows today a strong professional vocation, with regard both to the skills necessary to the design of recreational boats, their components, and accessories, and to the management of the different stages of the production process. In particular, the sector is going through a stage of strong growth and development in quantitative and economic terms, although full maturity has not yet been reached. This lag is explained partly by the current lack of executives able to manage and direct this phase of change. Course Program A ship, whether sailing boat or motoryacht, is a complex product that integrates several systems for propulsion, living quarters, and various accessory functions. Every decision about one of the technical systems (hull, appendages, interior layout, propulsion, onboard equipment) also affects all the others. A yacht, whether made series or as one-off, calls for many different construction techniques and a variety of materials. Examples of such production areas include industrial product design, interior architecture, communication, fashion, entertainment and urban planning. Particular attention will be paid to analyzing and summarizing utilization, control, ideation, organization and planning through the use of color. Consequently, color is not treated as a simple attribute of objects or surfaces, but as a means of expression and design underlying perception and interaction with reality. The Specializing Master consists of two phases. The theory and technique based phase aims to train students in the technical aspects of measurement, control, digital reproduction and comparison relating to disciplines such as physics, optics, colorimetry, chemistry, psychology and perception. The second phase focuses on the methods learned, which will be contextualized and experimented with in different color application and design areas such as interior design, urban spaces, industrial products, fashion and communication. The Course provides students with special and specific competence in vehicle testing techniques, both virtually, through CAE, and experimentally on the real vehicle (on track and road). See the promotional video of the Programme: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TswNmoRgvx0 The training program, as an absolutely innovative element, includes, alongside frontal instruction, test sessions on the circuit of the Quattroruote Safe Driving Centre, during which the participants will be engaged at first hand in learning the techniques and methodologies used in testing, inspection, checks and fine tuning of the vehicle dynamic behavior. All the participants will take a specially designed course in Advanced Driving, oriented to the subsequent phase of testing and inspection on the circuit. The training program of the Course is completed, and this aspect also represents an innovation, by the use of a static simulator for developing vehicles in a virtual environment. The Programme is a full time, international, one-year course equivalent to 1,500 hours and to a total of 60 ECTS points, divided into frontal instruction at the University of Pavia, Palazzo Vistarino, practical exercises at the Quattroruote circuit (Vairano di Vidigulfo, Pavia), an internship period (equivalent to 24 ECTS points) at the main automotive companies, guided tours to facilities related to the course, seminars, study activities and individual preparation. The program offers an experimental pathway at the forefront of design, marketing and technology. Students blend sound design competence with strategic vision, knowledge of technical aspects and project management skills in order to coordinate all the different stages in the development process. The plan of studies blends art direction and design contents with solid technical skills and an in-depth background in digital marketing and communication. The programme develops in the interplay between theoretical teaching and practical tasks. Project-based activities in particular are central to the learning experience and leverage abilities and information acquired in the other courses. The projects follow a professional workflow encompassing the definition of the digital strategy, the interaction model and user’s journey, the design of the interface and its look and feel, the creation of a prototype using front/back end programming tools. As the user experience is increasingly developing through social media, companies are changing their business accordingly: this new and thrilling scenario is deeply investigated with specific regard to the integration of content and navigation flow between websites and search/social platforms and viceversa. The overall didactic experience provides the students with professional abilities that allow them to engage in dialogue with the different figures involved in digital media projects. ADMISSION Upon selection, the Master admits graduates in Media Studies, Communication and Graphics, IT Sciences, Design or Architecture and their equivalents or candidates who have gained significant professional experience in the field. The program has a limited number of places available. Applicants will be admitted upon selection based on the student’s CV, portfolio and on an interview. DURATION The Master lasts 15 months (from October to December 2015, with a summer break in August). Attendance is compulsory and full time. The total workload of the course corresponds to 1500 hours/student encompassing lessons, class exercises, internship and individual study. At the end of the course, students can fit into one of these professional sectors, developed in independent production companies, research and design consultancies, service agencies, internal structures of broadcasters, specialized departments of publishing houses. Professional expertise in animation is increasingly in demand even in the context of special effects for movies and television productions. [+]

THIS PROGRAM IS TAUGHT IN ENGLISH Entry requirements: The Master of Animation Design welcomes students with an Honours degree or diploma of I or II level or equivalent in Illustration, CG Animation of academic disciplines (painting, stage designing, Multimedia) or a diploma awarded by schools of specialization within comics and animation design. It also welcomes professionals, with at least two-year experience, interested in gaining a greater degree of specialization and update. Structure and methodology: The Master in Animation Design aims first of all to consolidate and upgrade skills in animation concept design with a focus on the topics, contents and styles that characterize the current production. It identifies some points that focuses on the evolution of the production work flow, presented by larger studies that are currently introducing new artistic solutions and techniques (Emerging Tools) for the production of series and feature films: 2D/3D integration, Cut-out (Puppet Animation), Frame-by-Frame Paperless Animation, Post-production, VFX. On these "nodes" students will find also the search for style, as a synthesis between the premises of the concept - expressive and aesthetic intents - and the choices of realization. Teaching methodology is divided into three main areas: design, technical and instrumental and production-marketing. The programme initially provides some useful modules to examine and specialize expertise within the concept design, pre-production (from the subject to the storyboard) and animation, alongside the courses that provide the necessary expertise on the technical instrumental perspective. The course covers subjects such as Concept Design for animation (at the base of the short film), Ambient Design (study set design applied to the different animation techniques), Character Design (screenplay), pre-visualization techniques (from videoboard to lay out Settings Set 3D), Director, Soundtrack, development of interactive digital content. Teachers follow personally the formulation and implementation of various projects. The students make a dossier of the project, individual or in team, to be presented to the pitch of the most important festivals worldwide (Appel à Projects in Annecy; Pitch Me! At Cartoons on the Bay). There will be then a communication project (in simulation purchasing) on social issues or education and the creation of a personal show reel (self-presentation) updated to the latest projects. Master Degrees in Design in Milan Italy. THIS PROGRAM IS TAUGHT IN ITALIAN Target - As a matter of fact, the Master course is addressed to all those who studied communication, graphics and design and are looking for an advanced training to work in the field of graphics with ability and professionalism. Methedology and structure - The Master course - with its 10-month duration (7 months in classroom + 3 for stage/field project) and part time attendance - trains professionals in the communication field by developing managerial skills and a project culture rooted in the design history. But, most of all, it provides a method, a structure, and a process organized in a managerial way. The master consists of three steps. The first step is aimed at acquiring the knowledge concerning the communication project culture, at strengthening the technical-instrumental skills, and at developing the basic research through a frontal teaching methodology, guided project lab and individual study. The teaching is assigned to experts and professionals of the different disciplines. The second step of the pathway aims at managing the communication project in all its steps and takes place in collaboration with companies and/or external organizations. The last step of the Master course includes the stage/field project. Stages are realized as individual work periods - in Italy or eventually abroad – in one of the companies collaborating with IED. They last at least 3 months and allow the students to apply the developed tools and knowledge in a concrete experience by measuring with the professional procedure. Alternatively to the stage, the students can be involved in a Field Project. It consists of a consultancy/cooperation project realized by a group of students led by a teacher who acts as project tutor, and lasts at least 3 months. The teacher supports the team during the management of the relationships with the company-customer, during the project development and during the final realization and presentation of the results to the company as in a real professional situation.
