Introduction
How can we understand the EU’s response to the financial crisis or to the confrontation between Ukraine and Russia? How do we account for the EU’s reaction to the refugee crisis provoked by conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa? What are Europe’s peacekeeping role and capacity? The master's programme in European Studies trains you to answer these complex questions. Because you cannot study Europe from just one angle, the programme examines global developments and multi-level governance in a broader context, combining political science, history, international relations, economics and cultural studies. This student-centred, interdisciplinary programme is among the largest, and certainly the most international, in Europe and has an excellent reputation.You will study the internal and external dimensions of European policy, governance and administration. The focus is on the underlying issues of power and influence, governance and culture within the European milieu and between Europe and the wider world.

European Studies: European Public Policy, Institutions and Governance
European Studies: European Public Policy, Institutions and Governance is a one-year, full-time programme focusing on the internal dimension of EU policy, governance and administration. The programme combines insights from political science, public administration, history, and political economy.

European Studies: International Relations is a one-year, full-time programme focusing on the international dimensions of policy, governance and administration with a strong focus on EU external relations policies. The programme combines insights from political science, history, international relations and political economy.

European Studies: Global Policy and Governance Challenges
European Studies: Global Policy and Governance Challenges is a one-year, full-time programme focusing on Europe's relations with other parts of the world in the context of a rapidly changing global environment. The programme combines insights from political science, history, international relations, sociology and globalisation studies.
Scholarships and Funding
As an open and accessible academic community, UM offers several scholarships to support top-performing undergraduate and graduate students with personal development potential that are experiencing financial difficulties to pursue a degree at UM. UM scholarship students function as important ambassadors of the university during and after their studies.UM scholarship students are selected on the basis of their academic excellence, extracurricular engagement, active citizenship and financial need. As the number of scholarships is limited, the selection process is highly competitive.

There are currently more than 700 alumni from the programme, many of whom work in Brussels and national capitals. The available data (from over 500 alumni) show that 97% of the graduates are employed, 3% work as a PhD graduate or have chosen to do a second master elsewhere.
With your all-round grasp of European institutions and integration, as well as experience in international teams and practical project work, you can look for work in:

- Non-governmental organisations and think tanks (Management positions)
- Consultancy and public affairs (Consultant, Head of Communications)
